El Loco, Surry Hills - or - The Bait and Switch

First, muchos gracias to my anonymous informant and the bar girl for the tips on the secret taco ($5) and the Pacifico Clara beer ($8). They were the clear favourites for the evening. If I was to go back (I won't) it'd be beers and tacos all the way.

Mum always told me if I can't say something nice, say nothing. But I have to justify these expenses somehow so here goes nothing.

Halfway through eating the remainder of the 'meal' I had reached a conclusion: I was not a fan. I felt cheap. It looks and tastes like junk food, with a Mexican twist. Why was I eating this? The hot dog was a strange example where an object is less than the sum of its parts. A deconstruction was in order. The jalapeƱos were rescued and burned their thanks into my digestive passage.

This is a messy meal, Molly. Not a good choice for a date.

The spin is that all the plates and cups are biodegradable. But serving this junk in throw-away containers just adds to the fast-food-feel of it all. I also wonder whether washing up is much different, environmentally, than manufacturing containers to use once then chuck out.

I have no doubt, Molly, that my dissatisfaction with the food and venue will have no impact on their business. They have vibrant graphic design, lots of dough, and local homes and business to funnel people through the swinging cantina doors.

Oh, yeah, the damage: a bit under $60 for two. I took my hat, so we can probably chalk this one up as a business expense. Right?
