Young Henry's at Blancmange -- or -- Inner West beer degustation dinner (a food cycle)

I am not an expert on beer. I have spent time 'tasting' and 'appreciating' other things like wine and chocolate and food in general. But I'm really only a beginner at beer. Truth be told, I only developed a taste for the stuff a few years ago in preparation for a trip to Europe and UK.

I am, however, a stout local. And we now have our own brewery, Young Henrys. I saw a chance to drink their beer and eat fine food in my own jurisdiction. I took it.

This is that story.

Context: There is a musical called "The Last Five Years", which charts the course of a relationship. But, while we see his story from beginning to end, her side of the story is told from the end to the beginning.

This was a special occasion, and the vibe in the room was good. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. But this was more of a 'feast' than a normal degustation or a la carte dinner -- everyone got the same thing at once, rather than staggering start times. So the kitchen had to be firing on all cylinders to keep the dishes coming out in a timely manner. As it was, the whole dinner took about 4 hours, and I noticed some diners leave during or straight after the last course. Hopefully the kitchen staff managed to enjoy some of the beers afterwards.

It was good to have the brewers from YH there on the night to talk about the beers so I knew what I was tasting. I do like a spiel about my dishes/drinks, which is the benefit of going to 'fine dining' establishments. It makes me more mindful of what I'm eating/drinking.

Total for the evening was $95 per person for dinner and matched beers. A good price. And I'm likely to give more money to both Blancmange and Young Henry's as a result.
