Goblin Cafe, Summer Hill -- or -- Day Watch

Well. It's not often I go out for brunch. It's something easily made at home. Usually paid-for brunch is reserved for times of travel. So, something of a treat to eat brunch in my own neighbourhood.

There. I survived. Phew!

Note to self: brunch requires sunglasses.

Something else I have to note, Molly, is the service. You know how people do little things and they often go unnoticed? I noticed. We split the bill 50:50, and -- without being asked -- the cashier split our change 50:50. As in, instead of giving us a $10 note and some coins, and making us fight over it, she gave us two $5 notes and smaller coins so we each got half the change. (Which, ironically, we then put in the tip jar.)

So, I didn't catch your name, but lovely lady from Goblin you get my nomination for customer service excellence award. (You were also a lovely, friendly waitress.)

  1. I'm the same, I don't eat breakfast or brunch out that often. Haven't ventured to eateries in Summer Hill yet but when I do I'll make sure to check this cafe out. The big brekkie sounds promising.

  2. And they do gluten-free options for bread and banana bread. They got everything covered!

  3. I eat brunch out ALL THE DAMN time and I've got the pot-belly to prove it. I should probably refrain a little more, but it's just such a great way to spend part of a weekend - esp on a nice sunny day. You're waitress sounds tops – it’s those thoughtful little things that keep folks coming back.

    1. Best part of making brunch at home is you can put all the yummy things you want into it. Haloumi, happy bacon, happy eggs, good bread, mushies, chick peas, pesto. It's like luxury pie.

  6. I almost never eat breakfast / brunch out because I can't stand eggs! It's SO hard to find egg-free meals at cafes, so I end up ordering just a bunch of side dishes ("Can I have toast with avocado, bacon and tomatoes?") which cost a fortune. It's brunch at home for me.

    1. Can't stand eggs?? Yeah, that's gonna be a pain. What about eggs in fritters or something -- is that alright?

    1. Well, Doc, we split the bill evenly down the middle -- half each -- rather than "going Dutch" and paying for our own food. Half each came to about $44 and we both had $50 notes. We just handed them over together, figuring we'd worry about the change later. After all, what's $5 between friends?

I guess the short answer, Doc, is: we were either not thinking or we were thinking about making things easier for the staff.
